Thank you to everyone who made the Holy Week journey and Easter celebration another memorable one at St Mary’s Church. It all began with our usual Palm Sunday procession, a day which ended with some great displays of creativity involving handbell riding, and singing, poetry and readings. The Holy Tuesday service of reflection followed by Compline was wonderfully curated and led beautifully by the Churches in Harmony choir. Maundy Thursday saw some of us gather to share a meal and remember Jesus’ last supper with his friends, a lovely time of food and fellowship. Good Friday was soggy but it didn’t dampen the spirits of those who came to ride on the train and plant up an Easter Garden at the Rectory, the toasted hot cross buns were a bonus! In the afternoon of Good Friday there was another poignant ‘Hour at the Cross’ and we were again grateful to Marc Catley for allowing us to use his excellent material to help us reflect. We were really drawn into the thoughts and emotions of some of those present on the first Good Friday. On Easter Eve the Church was transformed with flowers and artwork so that we were ready for the Celebration. All who came to our 8am, 10am or 6pm services on Sunday sensed the joy of the occasion as we celebrated together, in different ways, Christ’s Resurrection, an event that changed the world forever. Happy Easter everyone – He is Risen.
