Collect for Christmas Day:
Lord Jesus Christ,
your birth at Bethlehem
draws us to kneel in wonder at heaven touching earth:
accept our heartfelt praise
as we worship you,
our Saviour and our eternal God.
Reading: John 1.1-14
Sorry I queued up the recorder and then in the excitement forgot to press record.
I spoke about the things that can distract us from God’s gift to us through Jesus – Peace, Joy, Hope and Love.
My sermon closed with a re-written version for Slade’s ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’ (of which I don’t own any copyright at all)
Song lyrics (apologies to Noddy Holder et al)
Are you hanging up an angel on your tree?
It’s the time that every Vicar wants more tea
Does he wear an orange jacket? And shorts that show the knees
Does he race around the village on two wheels?
So here it is Merry Christmas, Everybody’s having fun
Look to the future now, It’s only just begun
Are you waiting for the family to arrive?
Are you sure you got the room to spare inside?
Are your fridge and freezer bulging with the food that you have made?
Do you think there’ll all be empty Boxing day?
What will the neighbours say, When they see the bottles in your recycling? Ah ah
As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ
As we see that God so loved the world and why
That he sent his son to save us, to bring hope for me and you
So he’s up there rock and rolling with us too
